Sir John Hayes Backs Parkinson’s UK on World Parkinson’s Day
Sir John Hayes MP has reaffirmed his support for people living with Parkinson’s by attending a special parliamentary event ahead of World Parkinson’s Day on Friday 11 April.
The event, hosted by Parkinson’s UK, brought together MPs from across the political spectrum with people affected by Parkinson’s to raise awareness of the condition and the challenges many face across the country – including the estimated 153,000 people living with Parkinson’s in the UK.
During the event, Sir John met with individuals living with Parkinson’s to hear first-hand about their experiences, including difficulties in accessing specialist healthcare, a national shortage of Parkinson’s nurses and consultants, and the financial strain that often comes with managing the condition.
Sir John Hayes MP said, “It was incredibly rewarding to meet with people affected by Parkinson’s and to hear their personal stories. Their determination is inspiring, and I am 100 percent committed to doing everything I can to assist their cause – especially here in South Holland and The Deepings."
Laura Cockram, Head of Campaigns at Parkinson’s UK, added, “We’re grateful to Sir John for showing commitment to people with Parkinson’s. Too many people still face long waits for specialist care, difficulty accessing treatments, and financial struggles.”
Parkinson’s is a complex brain condition that gets worse over time. It’s the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, affecting 153,000 people in the UK. It has more than 40 symptoms – including tremor, pain and anxiety – and currently, there is no cure.
World Parkinson’s Day, observed on 11 April each year, aims to raise awareness and ensure that people with Parkinson’s feel seen, heard, and supported.
Parkinson’s UK is the leading charity supporting people affected by the condition, providing help every step of the way.
